Chicken Farm Art Center

1st Saturday of each month is held on the 1st Saturday...I promise it will be somewhere between the 1st and the 7th...

It is a special treat for all who attend and is our way of Sharing The Art Spirit with San Angelo.

All of the Art Center artists' studios are open for visitors and normally 20 to 25 invited artists come set up booths with their work. Painters, potters, stone and wood carvers and a variety artist doing their thing make this a special day.

1st Saturday Activities for kids and demonstrations.

We offer free clay for kids (of all ages) and we will fire it for you for a dollar if you will come next Saturday and pick it up. Crystal Goodman has become a regular with painting activities for children.
Free but a small donation will be appreciated to help with supplies.

Concho Forge and Concho Valley Blacksmiths Fellowship

Members sit up shop in the forge area. Besides demonstrating, they offer you a hands on opportunity to pound the hot iron. The blacksmith have an annual event 1st weekend of May.

1st Saturday MUSIC
Chicken Farm Pickers

If you like music...
Good acoustic picking, then 1st Saturday at The Art Center is the place to be. David Alexander, Terry Mills and Larry Ward have started a group called Chicken Farm Pickers. Local musicians get together in an informal circle and play their favorite songs. With so many regulars showing up it's hard to name them all. But Roy Don Scott, Coy Moses, Ed Stabler and many others would love for you to bring your guitar, fiddle (or violin if you hold your nose right), mandolin, or whatever and join in. Believe me, you'll fit in. Picking starts about 12 and goes to 5 generally.

Texas Clay Festival
Fourth Weekend in October
... Gruene Historical District of New Braunfels
Swirling wet clay, flaming hot kilns and incredible imaginations …
Texas Clay Festival is a craft show featuring over fifty fine crafts people working in clay today.  Each artist demonstrates his/her unique style of work in clay, as well as sells their finished pieces.  The work ranges from functional stoneware pottery to decorative clay sculpture.
Admission to the festival is free.
Visitors are able to see work created on a potter's wheel, as well as pieces created using hand-building techniques such as coiling and slab construction. There are kiln firings where visitors can see hot pots pulled from a glowing chamber.
The festival is held in Historic Gruene, Texas (4 miles north of New Braunfels) on the grounds of Buck Pottery. While you're there, plan to shop in the many unique stores, dine in any of the fine restaurants, & even kick up your heels at Gruene Hall, Texas' oldest dance hall.
This is a truly great ceramic event that we don't plan to miss unless we get uninvited. So if getting to San Angelo is a challenge, try to catch us in Gruene.  Join us for two days of fun and education in the ancient art of fired clay.

Randy Brodnax Show

Dallas, TX

2nd weekend of December
In December, Randy Brodnax hosts a show at the Sons of Hermann Hall (located at 3414 Elm where Elm & Exposition intersect) in Deep Ellum, Dallas. The Sons of Hermann Hall is an historic old dance hall and a great place to gather together. About 40 artisans of all kinds gather here to offer the public another chance to get one-of-a-kind Christmas presents. Randy makes some Gumbo. The bartender makes some drinks. The musicians make some music. We have a great time. If you live in or near Dallas, here is your chance to see our pottery without having to make a long drive to San Angelo.
