Green Philosophy
Roger was proud to have found a rundown Chicken Farm back in 1971. He had the vision to transform the property into a place for artists to live and work. Sharing the wonderful world of art has always been his main objective. Through the years, with help from a lot of friends, the Art Center has grown into a premier West Texas and San Angelo attraction. The transformation from a Chicken Farm to an Art Center presented many challenges, but Roger, from the beginning, used recycled items to create the special persona of the Art Center. Nowadays, glass, aluminum cans, plastic and paper are being set aside for recycling, and guests are encouraged to toss these things into the appropriate bin. When Susan and I joined the Chicken Farm Family in 2000, we quickly followed Roger's lead in promoting conscientious use of recyclable products.
Reduce-Reuse-Recycle
We are committed to greener business practices and encourage you, our patrons, to experience our green ideas.
We reduce, reuse and recycle and we take full advantage of our local recycling service.
We have set achievable goals and a realistic framework for achievement of green practices.
We use e-mail to conduct business as much as possible.
We reduce the newspaper by online newspapers service.
We donate usable items like clothing, linins, magazines and book to local charities.
We reuse stained linens for rags in the shop and garden.
We recycle or donate all of our electronic discards.
We compost our organic food waste.
Freshwater Reduction
We at the Inn at the Art Center believe in ecology and recycling. Every day millions of gallons of water are used to wash towels that have been used once.
You make the choice:
A towel on the rack means "I will use it again",
a towel on the floor means "Please replace".
Sheets will be replaced upon request.
Recycling containers are placed in your rooms.
Please deposit recyclable
PLASTIC, ALUMINUM and GLASS
In these containers.
Thank you for helping us conserve the earth's vital resources!
